Cover for article 'Smart City Guidance'

Providing people with more effective guidance in urban areas based on their own needs and user profiles improves the visibility and accessibility of companies and cultural spots. From the perspective of business development, infrastructure related to security, large events and guiding crowds and the solutions built on top of this infrastructure form an interesting ecosystem with a rapidly developing and growing global market.

The 6Aika project Smart City Guidance has defined two intertwined areas in need of development: guidance in normal situations and guidance of large crowds. The project approaches these two areas from the perspective of cities as well as companies. Cities need to prepare plans for the development and management of guidance and open up their APIs for companies. In addition to this, the challenges related to guidance should be opened up to companies so that they can develop solutions to them. In order to facilitate this cooperation, the project will plan and develop an innovation platform focusing on guidance.

The lead partner of the project is Turku Science Park, other partners include the City of Helsinki, the City of Turku, the City of Tampere and Turku University of Applied Sciences. The project will run from 1 September 2017 to 31 December 2019 and has a budget of EUR 2,086,705.
